Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) – is a laser device that delivers different wavelengths of light and frequencies so it can target various layers of the skin. Different wavelengths can target brown pigmentation (melanin) and redness (heme). Other wavelength of light can target deeper tissues to treat wrinkles and unwanted hair.
The MaxG is the IPL laser that targets brown discoloration so commonly seen with sun damage as well as red areas seen with rosacea and flushing. We use a melanin reader that measures the amount of melanin in your skin. This allows us to customize the settings for your treatment to maximize your results.
Everyone is different but even one treatment can be highly effective. People with extensive sun damage may need 2-3 treatments. You can keep your skin looking fresh and free of skin blemishes by continuing a once yearly maintenance program.
We will have you arrive 30 minutes prior to your appointment so we can apply numbing cream to your face. You will receive a text or email two days prior to your appointment reminding you of your appointment time. That is the time of your procedure. You will need to arrive 30 minutes prior to the time of your appt. When you receive a text or email reminding you of your 2:00 appt, then you should arrive at the clinic at 1:30. If you arrive at 2:00, we will not be able to apply the numbing cream.
The procedure can still be performed but without the benefit of the numbing cream (even without numbing cream, the treatment is more than tolerable.) We will then apply some oil to your face and begin the treatment. The treatment takes about 10-20 minutes depending on the areas being treated.
The laser has a snapping sensation and the pain level is typically rated about 4-5/10 by patients. Once the treatment is completed, we have you apply a refreshing cooling roller to your face to help decrease redness.
We do sell a Biocellulose Recovery Mask for $20 that you can apply at home anytime after your treatment that will help to jumpstart the healing process and improve comfort. (By the way, these masks can be used anytime and a wonderful way to unwind at the end of a stressful day.)
Your face will most likely be red immediately after the treatment. That redness can last for 2-3 days. You can wear a light moisturizer and some makeup after the treatment. You do not want to warm up your face for the first 48 hours after your treatment or until the redness is gone.
Therefore, you should not do any vigorous exercise or use a sauna or hot tub during this time. You need to avoid direct sun exposure for 4 weeks following the treatment and best to wear #50 sunscreen at all times.
With patented cooling technology, the MaxG ensures that your skin stays at a comfortable temperature throughout your treatment session. The laser pulse can have a snapping sensation. Average pain level has been rated at a 4-5/10. Numbing cream is applied to the skin 20-30 minutes prior to your procedure help with comfort.
