What To Expect

When you arrive, numbing medication will immediately be applied to help the procedure be more comfortable. Once numb, the area to be treated will be cleaned. You will be asked to wear some safety goggles to protect your eyes from the light. A gel will be applied to your face. You will feel cooling while the hand piece glides over the treatment area to provide a comfortable session. You may feel a slight rubber-band like snapping when the energy is being delivered into your skin which disappears almost immediately. However, a warm sensation after the treatment is common. Patient’s describe this feeling as having a mild sunburn. After the treatment a stainless steel roller will be provided to help start the cooling process.

Recovery

Patients do have redness and some swelling after the procedure that can last a few hours to a couple of days. After 1-2 days, treated lesions destroyed by the laser will turn darker in color and will take about 10-14 days to disappear. Vascular lesions can bruise and can take 2-3 weeks to resolve.

Until redness has resolved, it is recommended to avoid the following:

Applying cosmetics to treated areas.

Swimming, especially in pools with chemicals.

Hot tubs and Jacuzzis.

Activities that cause excessive perspiration.

Sun exposure to treated areas. Apply an SPF 45 or greater sunscreen to prevent skin color changes.

Aggressive scrubbing and use of exfoliants on the treated area.

Bathe or shower as usual. Treated areas may be temperature-sensitive.

If you have taken Accutane in the last 6 months

If you have recently or currently taken systemic steroids (prednisone)

If you have received Gold therapy in the past

Anyone with open lesions, cold sores

Anyone with a Fitzpatrick Skin types of 4-6

History of Light induced Seizures

If you are pregnant

History of hypertrophic scars or keloid formation

History of radiation therapy in area to be treated

Max G is not to be used for skin cancer.

If unable to follow the post treatment care instructions (to remain out of sun for 4 weeks and use sunscreen daily during that time.)

Max R – Hair Removal

Overview

If you’re looking for an alternative to shaving or waxing hair your legs or other unwanted body hair, laser hair removal may be right for you. Our MaxR laser uses intense pulsed light (IPL) technology to destroy the hair follicles without damaging surrounding tissue. The destroyed hair follicle becomes inactive and as a result, hair no longer grows in the treated area . Because hair growth is driven by hormones, hair does continue to grow back, although each time it does, it’s finer and lighter. Over time, almost all treated hair growth slows requiring less treatments for the same results. Typically 3-6 treatents are required to have the best outcome.

What to Expect

It is important that the treated area is completely shaved prior to the appointment, otherwise the laser light will focus on the melanin above the skin instead of deep into the follicle. While some people tolerate this treatment easily, others might experience minor discomfort. Some people have described it as having their skin snapped with a rubber band. However, the discomfort or pain only lasts for a second or so. After the procedure, any redness or irritation can be soothed with ice packs or a cold compress. These minor side effects should go away within a few hours or at most, a couple of days. Some people describe the feeling afterwards as a mild sunburn.

Recovery

There is no downtime with the Max R hair removal treatments. There is typically very little redness after the procedure. If so it usually subsides within a few hours. If the treated area could be sun exposed, it is important to wear sunscreen and avoid the sun for 4 weeks as this could lead to hyperpigmentation of the treated area.

When should I Expect Results

Typically people appreciate less hair growth 2-3 weeks after the treatment. It can take up to 3-5 treatments to reach the desired results.
